Chemotherapy expectations and reality

hello all,

having just finished 6 weeks of oral chemo (capecetabine) and radiotherapy I just wanted to share some thoughts.

i was terrified at first at the thought of the chemo, having read all the literature, read the forum and so on. I honestly thought that my world was about to come to a crashing halt!

the worst day I had throughout the treatment was the day before and after taking the first set of tablets, as I was expecting the worst. I thought I would be bed ridden wirh tiredness, nausea and a whole host of other nasties I'd read about.

i have been very lucky! The side effects have been fairly non existent. A little tiredness, but I haven't needed to nap, and a slightly unsettled stomach sometimes, but not enough to warrant taking the anti sickness tablets!

im still a long way of the end game of my journey and I'm sure there is more to come, however I thought it important that for someone about to start, don't think worst case scenario and done worry about what may happen. Everything is manageable and listen to the professionals to put yourself in the best possible shape before you start the treatment.

I hope this helps.

kind regards

Sean
