Dad's chemo is working so why do I not feel elated?

My dad was diagnosed 3 months ago with stage 4 cancer in bowel, liver and lymph nodes. He's had 3 months of weekly chemo. He had ct scan last week and we were told today all his tumours have shrunk a bit. He's to have another 3 months treatment. I have come home from the hospital and feel deflated, why am I not over the moon about the good news???? I'm shocked at my reaction. Anyone else felt the same? Thank you

  • Hi KarenLouise,

That's fantastic news about your Dad, but your reaction isn't all that unusual and is understandable. The chemo HAS worked which is great news, but he still has Stage 4 cancer which isn't great news. So not over-reacting is actually pretty sensible.

Celebrate the little things and help him enjoy the extra time that the chemo has bought him.

    Best wishes

    Dave

  • Hi Dave Thank you for your reply. I'm going to arrange a family afternoon tea to celebrate this part of his journey. I'm beginning to realise that any extra time we have should be celebrated in the best ways possible. Thank you lots
