Any breast cancer success stories!?

anyone got any success stories of beating breast cancer??

were waiting for biopsy results and treatment plan on Monday for my wife and could really do with some positivity!

trying out best and it's probably mainly me who is struggling most.

were hopeful it's caught early though

  • Hi. I was diagnosed with breast cancer on 6th April 2014. I had a lumpectomy, a sentinel lymph node biopsy and it had spread to two nodes so I had a total lymph node clearance. I then had 6 rounds of chemo and 18 rounds of radiotherapy. The good news is I have been clear on last two mammograms and have a third one coming up. It is a rollercoaster ride and you do feel like you re tied to the string on a yo yo at times but tell your wife to hang in there because we re stronger than we think, when we need to be. Thinking of you both. Best wishes, Sue :)

  • Hi

    thanks for replying!

they said her lymph nodes were ok so we assumed that was a positive??

  • I hope they are and I caught mine early too. No good hanging around when your health s at stake. Please keep in touch and let us know how everything goes. :)

  • Thanks very much sue that's great to hear and glad you're ok!

  • hi peter hope everything is fine, luckily was a success , it was stage three,i had the mamogram scan and biopsie in one day, lymph nodes checked, and thankfully im fine need radiotherapy as nothing there, just a precaution, hoping this makes you feel better,oh and maybe chemo they are not sure yet , i think its because of my family history, so lucky and sure your wife will be too x

  • Hi Peter.

I'm close to where your wife is now. I got my results yesterday and they weren't good. Think mine has spread to lymph nodes just awaiting results on a second biopsy. We can beat this!!! I'll watch your post and wish you both the best of luck x

  • Thanks for the replies.

    weve got everything crossed!

were up and down all the time especially with having two young kids.

they take your mind off it but also bring it all into focus and you can't help but think about the worst at times!

just want Monday to come and then get started

  • All the best for Monday. Thinking of you all :):)

  • Hello there. Just to send you both some positive thoughts at this stressful time. I had a 27mm lump removed in October 2013. The surgeon intended to do a standard wide local excision and remove the nipple. I had a couple of days to consider this and, as my lump did not seem to be attached behind the nipple, I asked for the the nipple to be saved if at all possible and then I signed to say that I would understand if, during the op, the surgeon decided it would be better to remove it. The result is a delightfully, scrunched up nipple which points upwards and is completely asymmetric to my other one! I love it. It has character. I was fortunate in having clear lymph-nodes. A month after all swelling and bruising had gone I had a 'fast track' guinea pig course of radiotherapy which involved a higher dose but over a shorter time. Apparently this is practised in Europe and may become standard over here when all of us guinea pigs have been trialled. I felt fine. I did not have chemo. Just a quick mention about radiotherapy...... when (if) you go for it then take a cabbage leaf in a cool bag ( I know this sounds insane but bear with me) and as soon as you come out from the room stick the cold leaf onto your treatment area under your top - it is wonderfully cooling and soothing. As it warms up (and it will) you will smell like school dinners but just swap it for another cold leaf. You may think I am mad but, believe me, it gives such relief. Others will say that Aloe vera gel has the same effect but it didn't work so well for me as the cabbage! Incidentally, I have been on letrozole since the op and I feel fine. It will be a stressful time for you both but technology and treatments are so advanced now that you should feel reassured. P.S. My Aunt had breast cancer in the 1920s & lived to 1970 to the age of 93!   Best wishes Pip

  • Pipm that's great thank you!

had yours spread at all in the same breast my wife has 2 smaller lumps which they weren't sure if they were 'satellites' of the big one or new ones.

they didn't seem massively concerned and certainly haven't fast tracked her but we worry about them non the less and my wife has a full panic on about these being signs of spresding

one other question if you know, and it's a long shot of hope for us!

i spoke to the cancer research nurses and they said a biopsy will tell if it's benign or malignant and nothing else can do that but the hospital said it was malignant. How can they be sure!?

her mum had benign lumps removed quite a number of years ago
