mum thinks she's cured

Hi there, my mum aged 81 had radiotherapy only for 3b lung cancer back in October.  She has been really quite well now since then which is wonderful.  The only problem is she's telling friends etc that she's cured.  Don't know how long the good effects of this treatment will last but worried for her mental health when it rears its head again.  Does anyone know how long the good effects last?

  • Welcome to the forum smsm.

I'm glad to hear that the radiotherapy your mum had for her lung cancer back in October has been successful but I can understand your concerns. Would it be possible for you, with your mum's permission, to have a chat with her medical team or GP to discuss this? If not you can always give our cancer nurses a call. They are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040, which is free to call from a UK landline.

Other members on the forum have been in the same situation with their parents and hopefully some of them will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

For the moment try to take it a day at a time and enjoy the positive impact the treatment has had on your mum.

    Best wishes to you both,

  • Thank you very much for replying. Will phone the lung cancer nurses at the hospital. I
