Side effects of Letrazole

Hi, I am currently taking Letrozole medication after having a lumpectomy in May '16 followed by radiotherapy in August. I have recently started with what is commonly called Trigger finger, although it is my thumb that is affected. When looking at the side effects of this drug on Cancer Research uk site, one of the rarer side effects is Trigger finger. Has any one else had this side effect? And if so, what, if anything can be done about it!

  • Hi Margalo, and welcome to Cancer Chat!

I just wanted to pop on and say hello as I noticed you'd not had a response to your post about experiencing trigger finger yet. Hopefully, someone will be along soon to talk about their experiences of taking Letrozole. In the meantime, if you'd like to ask our team of cancer nurses about this, they're available to talk on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm).

You may find that it's helpful to search the forum for recent conversations about Letrozole, too. You can do this by clicking on the 'search forum' icon near the top of the page.

I hope you're able to find something to ease this - please do let your doctor know as well!

Let us know how you get on; best wishes,

    Helen

  • Hi Margalo, I have had Tamoxifen for 5 years then last year l was changed to Letrozol. In the last couple of months l have developed trigger thumb. It started to become painful so thought l would go to my GP. I explained l was taking Letrozol and of course it was on my records. No connection to any side effects was mentioned to me and he just printed off the information sheet for me to read. Today l suddenly thought it my be a side effect so googled and there we go, it is a side effect on the cancer research web site. So much for going to my GP. I have now booked in for a phone consultation with my actual GP not the one that everyone gets when asking for an appointment. I will be asking if she should be referring me back to my oncologist or go for the steroid injections. Slightly worried that my original appointment was no help at all with the regard to side effects of Letrozol. If it was easy for me to google why didn't the doctor know, especially when l reminded him l was taking this drug! Well l will have to wait and see. In the meantime l feel that my other thumb is starting to click :-(
