Radioactive injection.

Has anyone had to have radioactive injection prior to lumpectomy and lymph node removals.  I'm so scared!  What's it like?

  • Hi, i had to have a radioactive jab the day before my lymph node op. I was also scared but it was really nothing to worry about. They injected me just below my nipple and it really didn't hurt at all. It took about 5 mins in total which included entering the room popping on a gown and having the jab, then you are free to go. Please try not to worry, you will be absolutley fine . Sarah xxxx
  • Hi there and welcome to this lovely, friendly site. Hopefully I can put your mind at ease re the injection. Like you, I was dreading having mine done but quite honestly I did not feel a thing. I had two young men in the room and they just chatted away to me as they did it (I had both sides done) and the next minute it was all done and dusted and they were telling me I could leave again. It really was that simple. You don't say when you are having your op but I imagine it is quite soon so I wish you all the very best and do let me know if there is anything else I can help with, I know how scary it all is at this stage. Take care and lots of luck.  Sue x

  • Hi, I had the radioactive injection last week, only took a couple of minutes, popped on a gown, skin cleaned and a tiny needle used to inject near the nipple, only felt a bit of pressure, honestly not the big deal I was afraid of, I was in and out in minutes, good luck with it all, D x
