Just had surgery

Hi first time I have posted so hello all. I had surgery on 8/12/2016 they removed a tumour from my left lung (NSC) but as it had invaded the chest wall & in surgeons words 'was nibbling away at some ribs and 2 vertabrae' they also had to remove part of those as well. First week after surgery seemed to do well but so little improvement since then. Still on loads of pain relief. 70mg twice a day oxcycodone 300mg 3 times a day gabapentin & oxymoron as required which is very often. When will the pain begin to get better not sure I can take this much longer. Pain in my back and all around my left breast & around my ribs. Not due to see the surgeon & oncologist until the 24th jan. has anyone had a similar experience any advice would e gratefully received thanks x

  • Hello Special1 and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm glad you were able to have surgery to remove the tumour from your left lung but I'm sorry to hear it also affected some of your ribs and 2 vertabrae and they had to be removed as well. I'm also sorry to hear you are still in quite a bit of pain after the surgery. I know you have said you're not due to see the surgeon and oncologist until the 24th Jan but if the pain is making things difficult maybe you could try and get in touch with them sooner and let them know what is happening?

You can always call our cancer nurses for some information and advice on this as well. They are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040, which is free to call from a UK landline.

Wishing you all the best for the rest of your recovery,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
