Side effects

Was admitted to start chemo last weekend, got discharged on Tuesday. Need to stay in hospital for my treatment but hey ho. I'm surprised with how well I'm coping, it's just these mouth ulcers that are giving me problems. I've to go to hospital tomorrow/today at lunch time to get strong painkillers, just wish I could manage some sleep xx

  • Hello Weedonnnaeff,

I am glad you are coping well with chemotherapy. Mouth ulcers are really painful, poor you. We have some information on our website on the effects cancer drugs can have on your mouth. You can read more about this here. It gives you advice on what to do if you are suffering from mouth ulcers. This page also gives you some tips on how to deal with them, foods to avoid etc...

Our nurses will also have some useful advice for you so don't hesitate to give them a call on this free number if you live in the UK: 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

How did your appointment at the hospital go? Did you manage to get stronger painkillers? I also hope you are managing to sleep a little better.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi lucie I'm on morphine sulphate for the pain, to which I need to put through ng tube. Can't eat anything The last couple of days I'm managing hot chocolate and ice lollies again so I'm glad.

I'm doing everything possible to keep my mouth as clean as I can, it has only affected inside of one cheek and certain parts on tongue.

A bit scared that it will be worse when I have 2nd round of chemo but I know I have to take the side effects on board.
