Anxious

hi 3years ago I had a mastectomy right side plus lymph nodes removed ,left side lumpectomy and sample lymph nodes removed , followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy, in the time that has passed. Two other ladies I know have had there cancer come back , I can't help but think I should ask for the remaining breast to be removed,we did ask at the time about a double mastectomy but where told at the time it wasn't  necessary,I would like to hear anyone's else's opinion please.

  • Hi, I had my left breast removed plus lymph nodes followed by chemo and have just finished radiotheropy and like you I did ask for both to be taken but they didn't seem to think it was needed. It is hard not to think about the cancer returning but if you feel that you want the other breast to be gone because it will give you peace of mind then go for it. At the moment I want to recover from all of the treatment and to start to look like me again. Once this is done I will think about asking for the other one to be taken because like you I know of others where the cancer has come back but saying that I met a lady the other day and her cancer didn't come back for 20 years.

Sorry I am not sure that my answer has helped.

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to reply I can understand you want time to recover I know it's tough, I finally feel more like my old self which to be honest is part of the problem ,all the surgery chemo radiotherapy just about finished my family and I just don't think I could put them through it again our myself .  So please don't be sorry because your answer has helped I am going to speak to my breast cancer care nurse , I wish you a speedy recovery x
