Hi 

i have stage 3 breast cancer, I had my op on 12th August and my first oncology appointment on the 28th of September when I was told I would have six chemotherapy sessions starting on the 19th October with three weeks in between each session, then 3/4weeks of radiotherapy.

I'm no expert but I think there's usually a 6 week gap between surgery and chemo. This is because the chemo attacks fast growing cells like cancer but it also attacks the fast growing cells associated with healing after surgery.

My nymph nodes was clear but waitng for results to see if i need chemo, hoping i won't but still feel so uncertain about so many things and most naive...... :-(

I was told it was normally a 6 week gap between Surgery and Chemo - my surgery was total hysterectomy. Chemo can and did in my case attack the surgery nerve damage so there is a reason to wait. Do not worry - by the time it comes around you will I hope be feeling - lets crack on and beat this *** - you will be feeling a bit stronger in a couple of weeks. I would however try and pin them down to what you will be having as next treatment as you need to know that. Ask your consulatants secretary or Macmillan nurse for this information. Good luck x
