Frustrated and confused

Hi,

im a newbie to the forum, my husband suggested I join a forum to speak to others who are in a similar position to me. I've just returned from an oncology visit and feel soooo frustrated. After completing 6 courses of chemo, I had an ultra sound to determine whether the lump had shrunk. Since them I have seen both a breast surgeon and oncologist and neither has given me feedback on the ultrasound. I'm now wondering why the hell I went through chemo if the outcome didn't seem to matter.

i feel that I'm not given enough information on which I can make an informed choice about my treatment, but have rather been told what treatment I will take.

I would also like to know if anyone has been on  bisphosphonate treatment ( zoledronic acid) for any length of time and if they are OK with the treatment as I've read that it could cause osteonecrosis, particularly with regards to the jaw and femur. I have to make a decision about whether I should take it or not, but really don't want to take something that will help in one area,  ut cause a myriad of problems in others.

your thoughts and insights are greatly welcome.

  • Welcome to the forum Gnats.

I'm sorry that you haven't been given any feedback on the ultrasound you had. I know they should have mentioned it but did you have a chance to ask about it as well when you met with them? If not do contact them to find out what the outcome was.

I'm glad you took your husband up on his suggestion about joining the forum to meet others in a similar situation. Many members have found it really helpful to talk to others who are going through the same thing and I hope you get to meet some of them soon. In the meantime I have found some information on our website about bisphosphonate treatment which you can read about here.

Our cancer nurses will also be able to give you information about this treatment. You can call them on 0808 800 4040, which is free from a UK landline, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will be happy to discuss your situation and answer any questions you may have.

I hope this helps and that you are able to come to a decision about your treatment soon. Do come back and let us know what you decide.

    All the best,
