Breast Cancer for a Second Time

I have been diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time! I was diagnosed the first time in 2012 and again earlier this year! I've found the cancer diagnosis more difficult to come to terms with this time, for reasons I've yet to understand!

I have felt quite isolated this time as there has been no other women my age and I'm being continually told that I won't find many woman under 45!

  • Hello Kalo,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum but I am sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time. I am sorry to hear you have been feeling quite isolated this time and that you haven't managed to connect with other women of a similar age. I just wanted to let you know that we have many ladies on our forum who I am sure would love to talk to you. One example that springs to my mind is the lovely [@Nessemo3]‍ who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and is only 37. You can read her About Me here  as well as see the threads she contributed to.

Hopefully you will soon get talking to some of our lovely ladies here who find themselves in a similar situation.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Kalo

I'm so sorry to hear your news and even though I haven't had those dreaded words again I can somehow relate to how you are feeling

I am 43 and was diagnosed in July I had a lumpectomy and 20 sessions of radiotherapy, now on daily hormone tablets and monthly injections in an attempt to keep this *** disease away.

I keep hearing that under 50 is rarel, but all the people that I have been in contact with and heard from are all under 45, apart from 1. Surely if this is the case it is no loger rare ??

Sending you loads of love and positive vibes, keep strong and kick *** again brave lady.

  • Hi Claire

Thanks for responded to my post!  It's always good to hear from people whom actually get what your going through!  I have to admit that this Time there hasn't been anyone near my age group, plus all the support at the hospital is set up for people whom are older!

How are you coping with your diagnosis and treatment???? What hormone medications are you on now, if you don't mind me asking?

thank you for getting in contact!

    Kat

  • Hi Kat

of course I don't mind u asking ... ask away we're all in this club that no one wanted to be in !!

I'm on a daily dose of anastrozole and an anti depressant beginning with v, will check that, and a monthly hormone injection. I couldn't take tamoxifen as family history of dvt hence the injection. Gp said this week that he thinks it has put me into menopause .. oh the joys eh as not dealing with enough already

I didn't cope at all well with diagnosis & the waiting period, only seemed to relax wen op was over & was told no chemo tbh. Radiotherapy was ok but very tiring. Last couple of weeks I've felt poorly not sure if it's side effects of radio, medication, virus or, wat everyone seems to think, the shock coming out !!

What type of cancer did u have & treatments did you have the first time ? In my experience the breast care nurses were amazing as well as all other staff I have dealt with, maybe they can put you in touch with someone locally to you in the same position ? Support is invaluable from both family & friends but also others going through or been through the same. When you feel isolated reach out to anyone you think can help, I will stay in touch to check if I can do anything at all.

Take loads of care of you, thinking of you brave lady.

    love claire

  • Hi kalo

Im vanessa I'm 37,38 on Thursday. I was diagnosed with breast cancer just before Christmas last year.I have 3 children 2 boys and a little girl who are 2,7 and 12.

I agree with you regarding the age thing.I found alot of the information I was given etc etc was all geared towards older women and it's quite isolating.

I've had a mastectomy 6 rounds of chemo and 15 sessions of rads.

I am now taking tamoxifen.Makes me sore and achy and the hot flushes are a nightmare.I get angry that I have to feel this way at my age...I feel old and slow at times.

My hair is growing back feels like it's taking forever though and it's brown! I had lovely long blonde hair I keep making myself jump in the mirror!

I'm happy to chat to you if you like.

hope this finds you feeling positive

    take care
