Hi. Welcome to a brilliant site. I can t really help you because I had breast cancer but I know lots of people on this site are also suffering with bowel cancer. It probably won t be long before someone comes along to talk to you. You ve come to the right place to talk about things and help to get them off your chest a little. Keep us informed of your progress :)
Hi Carrie, welcome to the forum, but sorry for what brings you here. I was diagnosed with colon cancer 7 years ago. Unfortunately it matastisised to my lung, but I'm still here. I had a colon re-section back when and some chemo treatment that they couldn't continue with because I was too sick to continue. There is nothing available in the way of treatment for me now, but at present, I am doing what I can to enjoy life as much as possible. It is what it is. Hopefully, your treatment will do the trick for you as it has for many others and you will have a full cure. I don't know how old you are, but I am up there in years, so I have lived a fairly long life up until this happened.
Be kind to yourself as you go through your treatment. I hope you have family and friends to support you through this time. Take care and the best of luck.
Lorraine
Hi Lorraine,
Thanks for your reply. I'm 53 and have been going through treatment since January 2016. I've had 3 bowel surgeries and a liver resection. I'm currently having chemo but it will be finished in November!
It's particularly hard for my daughter as we lost my husband 3 years ago to bowel cancer and now I've got it. She is 23 and for the last 5 years she has been living with parents with cancer.
Hi thanks for your reply. I'm doing ok and treatment is due to finish soon.
So glad you re doing ok. We get used to diggin in and being brave, don t we? Although it s not always easy! Goes without saying that you ll be glad when your treatment finishes, won t be long now! I know what you mean when you say it s hard for your daughter. My ex husband died 3 weeks ago from pancreatic cancer and although my son is almost 35, it has hit him very hard because they were very close. Best wishes to you and your daughter. Regard, Sue.
Hi Sue,
So sorry to hear about your husband. How are you? Thank you for replying to my post when you have so much to deal with yourself. Look after yourself and your son. Carrie
Hi carrie. We re doinn ok thanks. What about yourself? How are you doing? Best wishes, Sue.
Hi Carrie. I found that too, it gets more exhausting as you go along! Mind you, I m not surprised you re feeling it, what with still being at work full time. Hope you re managing to get a bit of " Me Time". It s so strong not to get tearful when the kids ask you questions. It s amazing where our inner strength comes from, isn t it? Yep, people tend to dwindle, after a while and leave you to your own devices. Sounds like the shock of your husbands passing may have hit you later rather than sooner. Sometimes that happens and then it hits you like a ton of bricks! Don t take on too much with all the DIY. You need your energy to fight this filthy thing! It doesent sound like a moan to me. It sounds like you re getting some much needed things off your chest! Anytime you want to moan, just carry on and do it! we re all entitled to it! I m here to talk anytime. Thinking of you, best wishes, Sue :)
