Vulva cancer

Hi everyone  i got diagnosed with vulva cancer a few months ago i had an operation to remove the lump and im now on week 4 of treatment , this week is chemo and radiotherapy same as week one . I still get scared and apprehensive everyday im there but i put on a brave face . I seem to be suffering a lot of radiotherapy side effects at the moment but again the brave face goes on . Does anybody have any advice to help ease soreness ?

  • Hello Voodoomummy,

Welcome to the forum although we're sorry that you find yourself dealing with cancer.

I think that it's not unusual for some people to "put on a brave face" whilst they're going through treatment. It's a way to cope with what is going on but we'd encourage you to talk to your radiographer/nurse as they may be able to offer some on the spot practical advice or give you something to help you manage the soreness and side effects.

We have some information on our website about the side effects of vulval cancer radiotherapy. We also have a team of nurses here that you can call to talk with. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 (free to call from a UK landline).

Keep in touch Voodoomummy and let us know how you get on.

    Sending our best wishes,

  • Hang on in there. I know someone who had cancer of the vulva last year and they are really good now. I had stage 3 uterine that had spead to ovary and finished treatment in Mid July but have faith it will get better but in the meantime ask for help from Dr or nurses - just shout for help!
