  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Bev although I'm sorry for the reason it brings you here.

I see you have mentioned that you have just had your third chemo and second injection. How are you finding it? I hope it's going ok and you're adjusting to it. I'm sure other members on the forum who have had chemo and herceptin will pop by when they get a chance to say hello and share their experiences with you.

Do feel free to chat to others who may also be discussing this on the forum as well as I'm sure they would love to hear from someone having the same treatment.

Keep us updated on your progress Bev and I look forward to seeing you around the forum.

    All the best,

  • Hi Bev. I, too, am new here. This is my first post and I'm a bit further down the road on my cancer journey. I had my last Chemo (paclitaxol) in August. Treatment was stopped after 9 (of 12 proposed) weekly sessions due to problems with chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy. I was told having 9 instead of 12 is unlikely to affect the success of treatment. The neuropathy has become slightly better over time or maybe I've just got more used to it. Radiotherapy finished near the end of September and I'm about halfway through the 18 Herceptin injections. Luckily I didn't feel too bad during treatment. I managed, with the help of the dietitian, to control the weight gain that I think was driven by the pre-chemo medication (I could have eaten for England! ) and am now within a kilo of my pre treatment weight. Once the weekly/daily visits for treatment end it's a bit strange and I'm trying to get my head around 'what now'? I was going to retire this year (I am 69 and nearly 70) but this isn't happening the way I thought it would. No gentle wind down of reduced hours. Just an abrupt stop the day before the lumpectomy and then the concentrating on treatment, coping with fatigue and coming to terms with a future that has changed but without my being completely in control of it. I do hope that your treatment goes well and that your prognosis is good. Presumably, if you are receiving Herceptin then you will have had a fairly aggressive cancer. The outlook for HER2+ cancer patients is so much better now that Herceptin gives us a more level playing field. Good luck Folky 69 - (Christine)
