Melanoma

Hi!

A few months ago I was diagnosed with a melanoma and after a biopsy told it had spread to the lymph nodes in both underarms. A week ago I had a full axillary clearance.

I'm off work and finding it really hard to cope with the "what next" having concentrated only on the clearance up to this point. I keep finding myself reading survival statistics post-metastases and the likes and finding it hard to stay positive. Has anyone got any wise words or advice?

  • Hi Mel,

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis but I'm glad to hear that you have been able to have treatment and are slowly on the mend. Many members will really understand how you are feeling having had similar thoughts after their treatment and hopefully they will post soon to offer their support and advice. In the meantime stay strong Mel and anytime you feel down remember that we are here for you and there will always be someone to chat to.

Wishing you all the best with your recovery,

  • Hi Mel,

I had the same diagnosis five years ago, and there's no sign of a recurrence.  I don't even think about it these days.  I wish you well.

    Chillin'

  • No wise words but just that I’m in the boat with you after having all my left axillary lymph nodes out last week

now got an infection which is gross!

  • It's nearly two years later for me now and I feel much better. Not to say I don't still have moments of worry/nightmares about reoccurrence but I'm managing to enjoy myself much more!

Sorry to hear you've needed the axillary clearance - such a pain! Especially with the infection and the heat wave! Fingers crossed it clears up soon!

I saw on your bio that you're a teacher - me too, secondary, in Manchester! I too had my first surgery over the summer holidays - great to have so much time off, not such a great way to spend the holidays though!

Hope it all works out soon!
