Waiting, waiting, waiting

I was rushed into A&E at the end of may as my appendix had burst to be told I needed further treatment but at the time they didn't know what it was for - they said they'd let me know within 3 weeks and it took 7 weeks of me chasing to find out I'd had cancer of the appendix. They removed all the cancer and I've been tested to see if it was elsewhere which it doest appear to be but I may still need chemo as I have mucus from the cancer floating about me. I was told I'd hear within 2 weeks, it's been almost 5 and I've heard nothing.

  • Hi there Haleyel, welcome to the forum, but sorry for what is going on with you. This chasing around is totally unacceptable and should not be happening, especially when you're talking about cancer. Do you have a primary care doctor? If so, you need to get him/her to do the chasing around to find out what is going on. If nothing else, you are owed an explanation for what is going on, what, if anything they plan to do about it, and if not, where do you go from here? They owe you that. Who told you that you would hear within two weeks? Go to that person, if your primary care doctor doesn't do anything. This sitting around waiting until they're good and ready to talk with you, if ever, is not right. Go after them first thing on the next working day and don't stop until someone answers your questions.

Good luck with it and let us know the outcome. Take care.

  • Hi LorraineD - it was my consultant who said I'd hear within 2 weeks, his receptionist hates me I'm ringing constantly and I really need to be returning to work but without an answer the consultant has told me I have to remain off work. I have a welfare meeting at work this week too so could really do with finding out before then!
