Hello

Hi I'm 62yrs old with breast cancer I start chemo nexted week , can anyone tell me what to expect ?

  • Hello! I'm 47 and have had first chemo, second was due today but I was told to have flu & pneumonia jabs which I reacted badly to so now on a week of antibiotics before round 2 starts. The actual administering of chemo is fine, I had 4 big syringes of FEC put in through my PICC line, took about 30 mins, quite a nice sociable experience with chatty nurses and tea and biscuits! About 1 hour later, at home, was sick, carried on being sick several times during that first day despite having anti sickness pills. Next day just felt nauseous but was able to get up and go into town. Felt like a 'space cadet' for 4\5 days, not really with it but still up and about. After that felt back to normal! Hair fell out after 2 weeks though, wasn't expecting that so soon but now it's happened it's one less 'what if?' to deal with. Yes, you feel yucky for a few days but knowing you won't feel like that the whole time makes it bearable. Be kind to yourself and indulge in what you fancy. Good luck xx
