prostate cancer

Hello All.  My husband of 42 years was diagnosed with prostate cancer at 60.  We have gone through surgery and radiotherapy but now it looks as if it is coming back.  We are so anxious about the PSA test results.  I have read and read about prostate cancer and PSA significance but cannot find any comfort as the literature is so confusing.  Our consultant is not clear and i find he isn't listening to my questions.  I can support my husband as can my family but i would so much like to understand what is happening.  I have very dark days when i think i can live on my own but not without him.  Sorry to be so negative but find i have absolutely noone to share my dread and anxiety with.

  • Hi Palliser,

As someone who was diagnosed with prostate cancer, I do understand your situation. Psa is not a definitive  marker for you can have an infection which can give a high psa reading. The literature can be very confusing as I found when I was diagnosed. My consultant was very good and explained things very well.

I hope you get some answres soon; please keep in contact, best wishe to you both, Brian

  • Thank you very much Brian. My husband has had a prostectomy which i understand means ther can't be an infection unfortunately. Nowonder PSA stands for Produces Sustained Anxiety! I do find the literature very contradictaory and confusing and thought I was the only person to be bewildered so thanks for agreeing. Best wishes to you too. x
