Hi I was diagnosed in July 2014 with lung cancer which had spread to my lymph nodes so no surgery or radiotherapy for me.I did 4 cycles of Cisplatin/Pemexetred which shrunk everything by 75% and was on Pem maintenance for 16 months which kept it at bay. In May this year after a ct scan it was found the Pem had stopped working so they took me off it. I decided to have no treatment over the summer and my energy levels rose and i was able to go on holiday and have the grandchildren over to stayfor days out ect.
After a further ct scan in August it had grown some more and the Oncologist offered me Docetaxel/Nintednib but i asked if anything else was available as i didnt really want more chemo.
A biopsy earlier this year found that i have a Melanoma mutation so the doctor applied for funding for a new trial drug for Melanoma but i was refused. In the meantime i was invited to join a pan-raf inhibitor trial at the Christie hospital in Manchester but when we got there they said the trial was full. I said they should have rung and told me instead of us wasting our time going from Leeds to Manchester.
Last week i went back to see my doctor and she arranged for me to start the Doc/Nin chemo next Tuesday as there was nothing else available.
The day after my appointment the trial doctor rang to say they were inviting more people to join the trial and i was a good candiate because of my mutation.
So i have cancelled the chemo and i start screening tests for the trial next Thursday. I am exited but a little nervous too and i was wondering if any one on here is on the same trial ? it would be good to compare notes if they are.
