Hi do you know what to do with yourself now given up work. How do you get an interest in things
Hi Gourock
You must have activities that you enjoy doing. Or maybe interests that you once had but stopped because you were too busy working. Try taking them up again, join a local club with like minded people. Its also an ideal opportunity to try something new. I like growing vegetables in my garden and also have an allotment, its a very sociable pastime and good excercise plus cooking and eating the produce is fun. I like walking and camping out in wilderness places. I am interested in astronomy and have purchased an inexpensive telescope, I like shooting my rifle, fishing, swimming, supporting my local football team, the list is endless (its beginning to sound like answers on a dating site) I also still work between bouts of treatment out of economic neccessity. Whatever you decide on do not take to sitting around doing nothing, you will damage your health and reduce your life expectancy. Kim
Hi again gourock
I'm not enthusistic every single day, somedays the fatigue is overwhelming and I don't have the energy to do anything, I always end up feeling the worse for it, having wasted a precious day, when there are a limited number left. Do you think you might be suffering from depression? this can destroy your interest in doing things. If you think you are talk with your GP it is a curable condition. Try start off just going out for a walk, take a camera or just your phone if it has a camera, take some photos of everyday stuff, a bus, the park, a pigeon, and have a good look at the pictures when you get home, especially the background detail, its amazing what you don't notice when you're just walking along. When I was rock bottom low after major surgery and radiotherapy I found great solice in just sitting in my garden watching birds and marvelling at nature, I got a bird spotting book from a charity shop and learned the names of the many visitors to my garden. Its just a matter of taking that first step to rekindling your interest, I know easier said than done. I hope this is of some help to you. Best wishes Kim
Hi, I've just joined this site, so I can only tell you my experiences, I, still work, albeit with time out for when my bowels start doing theire own thing. But, mostly I love walking(keeping close to public toilets though) got letter from doc, to join gym, thought agua aerobics, and I love growing plants from fruit pips, seeing things grow and thrive gives me such pleasure. Simple things, but keeps me occupied and count every day as a great blessing
