Bilateral Subcapsular Orchidectomy

I had a Bilateral Subcapsular Orchidectomy 5 years ago because my PSA Reading was over 869. I was under the impression that having had the operation it would stop all further Cancer cells reaching the prostate. In the last six month my PSA Reading has been steadily going up until two month ago when it was in the mid 20's. My Consultant decided to take me off the drug Bicalutamide 50mg suggesting that it may have a reverse effect and bring the psa down. Unfortunately it didn't and now my psa reading is over 50. My consultant is now recommending Chemotherapy. If I had known 5 years ago before having the BSO that there was a chance my PSA would rise again I may not have had the operation.

I also had secondary Bone Cancer over five years ago which I have received the drug Zometa, (Zoledronic Acid). This has proved to be quite successful.

I am sorry to hear that despite having a bilateral subcapsular orchidectomy 5 years ago, your PSA has been rising. It's good news though that Zometa has proved to be quite successful for you. I hope that you will get to talk to other forum members here who have had a similar experience following a bilateral subcapsular orchidectomy.
