Can't take much more!

Hello.

I've just finished my second out of six chemo sessions and somehow even though I wasn't as physically unwell as my first, I feel worse in myself. It's been a week today since the session but I can't seem to shift this awful feeling of anxiety and depression. I've returned to work to try and occupy my mind but it doesn't seem to be working. I have even considered not to return and finish my chemotherpay because I honestly don't think I can take much more. I'm seeing a therapist next week in a hope to shift this mood.

Has anyone felt the same?

Thanks

  • Hi

Yes, I remember being at this stage.  It certainly is a roller coaster, one minute I was O.k the next I was down.  I remember when I was anxious I would take a walk, and arrange to meet friends, this helped.  I found it helpful to arrange nice things for when I was feeling well.  After the second chemo, I would think well after this one I would be half way through, and after the fourth I only have two left.  I went to the Look Good Feel Good sessions at my local centre.  I enjoyed meeting others and learning how to adjust my make up.  This is not easy but worth it.

I am now three years from treatment.  I am very well, and back at work full time.  I am glad I took everything on offer to prevent it from coming back. Although at the moment it feels awful, it is a short time when I look back.  Everything has probably changed for you, and you may still feel very scared, this is understandable.  I think the emotional side of chemo is more difficult than the physical.  My advice would be take one step at a time, and think of each chemo has a hurdle you will get over to reach your goal.
