OP over and like to share its not as bad as i thought.

Well ive been in. Had the lumpectomy. Was scared to death at being put to sleep but all the hospital staff was lovely. One min talking about the holiday picture on the ceiling before we went into surgery next min woke up on the ward. The needle canular in hand did not hurt at all. Neither did the injection day before in boob for the radioactive dye.  ( bee sting few days before hurt more !) when i woke was very woozy and couldn't focus but when i came around a bit they bought me tea and a biscuit.

First thing i done was look at my boob. and yes it was still there. felt sore but  to be honest CHILD BIRTH MUCH WORST !

After all the usual checks i got dischared and had a bit of a sicky ride home, went straight to bed. lots of tabs. The wound is a long mark under my boob, no huge lumps taken out as i expected. pretty much knocked out that evening, woke to bit of pain but i think loosing my toe nail was worst ! got up today had a shallow bath and cleaned up the area and wiped off the marker pen !

Now day 2 have got up for a bit and delagated some house work to kids but got v tired so popped back in bed. Need to go back in 2 weeks to be checked and have all results frm the lymph nodes etc and i guess wait for a radio T appt  to come through.

All in all not near as scary as i thought thanks to the lovely staff making me feel so at ease and my mum looking after me before and after, kids have even stepped up even managing to use the washing machine !

Happy to answer any questions you have regarding above if you have not had it done yet. Fingers crossed now they got it all  out and i can start on the radio T and get on with thinking about my holiday again at the end of the year.

Best wishes to you all. stay strong. Be brave.

  • Hello Suzie,

We are so glad it went well for you and thank you so much for taking the time to describe everything in detail. It will be so useful to other ladies who are about to go through the same procedure and I am sure it will help them feel better about everything.

Very good idea to delegate some of the housework as you need to look after yourself at the moment and recover fully. I bet the kids found it fun to start the washing machine!

I hope the radiotherapy goes well. Keep us updated when you get a chance.

Any nice destinations in mind for your holiday plans?
