Breast cancer severe reaction after rt

Hi i was diagnosed with breast cancer before christmas. i have had the lump removed and some nodes.I also have ms so it was decided to go for very high dose radiotherapy for 4 weeks. i have now completed that but now have a very rare server reaction. its hard to describe but ill try. i have very large breast so im used to chaffinf in summer, but this started like that and now is all open weeping wound and the underneath of breast has lost a few layers of skin and is also weeping. my lovely breast nurses have got the wound nurse in to dress it and then had to go to drs to be changed in 2 days. it had soaked right through the dressing and onto my clothes. they put on a new dressing and only been a day and its doing it again. i wont be having it changed until tuesday. as well as the weeping there is a horriable smell which im told is ok but i hste it as i can smell it all the time im so embarrassed about it. im also not allowed to shower because i have to leave my sports like bra on else it will fall off. strip wash only. if anyone has any ideas on how tohelp with smell or anything else please do reply; im sorry is so grapgic . as i have said this is s very rare reaction. the last time my breast nurse had seen anything near this was over 3 months ago. thankyou for reading

  • Hello crest68,

This sounds really uncomfortable poor you! I hope they have been able to change the dressing today and that they have examined it.

I hope our forum members will have some tips for you. I would also suggest you give our cancer nurses a ring on this free number (if you are based in the UK) 0808 800 4040. You can talk to them Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope things are a bit better for you today and that this severe reaction soon settles down.

    Best wishes,
