Arimidex

Just been to see the Onocologist today for a review of my Breast cancer Drug.  I had been originally prescribed Tamoxifen but it really didnt suit so it was suggested I stop to see if it was the drug or the lack of HRT.  I had a Hysterectomy back in 2013.  I am 47.  The Oncologist has suggested I try Arimidex but to be honest Im not sure the statistics are that good that I want another drug with lots of side affects.  Maybe its all too soon.  I was diagnosed just before Xmas, I have had a Lumpectomy and Radiotherapy.  Not sure what to do next?

  • Hi there, it's difficult isn't it? Whatever you take obviously helps to keep the cancer at bay which is the main thing but will have better or worse side effects depending on your individual reactions to it. I have been on Anastrozole since last June following bilateral lumpectomies & radiotherapy and I find there is a big difference between the various brands of the same drug. At the third attempt I have one brand in particular, Teva,  where I have had minimal reactions, achy joints yes but not unbearably so and only night sweats rather than almost continuous hot flushes. It really is a question of trial & error to find the one that suits you best I think. Good luck with finding something that works for you and do let us know how you get on. Take care  Sue x
