Scc surgery

Hi, I have just had surgery for a s.c.c. by a plastic surgeon who cut a Rhomboid Flap  on my right cheek. I had local anaesthetic only and as I had not researched the operation was completely shocked when I looked in the mirror. The s.c.c. was only small but the amount of flesh removed was large. As was the scar. I am to have the stitches out in 2 days and the scar has been sore, swollen and bruised. I am 67 and not a vain person but worried about it not healing well

  • Hi Earl

Its very early days yet, you will start to heal once the stitches are out. You will always have a scar but it will fade with time over several months to years rather than weeks. The main thing is that the SCC was totally removed. If the hospital is removing the stitches ask while you are there whether the margins were clear, if not phone them a few weeks from now to find out. After the stitches are out use oil or lotion a few times a day on the scar. Kim
