Bowel Cancer at 32

So, was looking forward to 2016 being a great year, new job, new motorbike and heading towards a new house with my girlfriend of 12 years.  Then it turns out I had a squatter in my bowel, who I now refer to as the "squatter", an unwelcome guest that has put one hell of a downer on the year - my Cancer is quite severe, having gnome already spread to my Liver, the Primary is in the Bowel which makes it more treatable, but nonetheless, I still have one hell of a battle ahead of me - I am making a video log of how each day is going, please feel free to ask questions about what the whole process is like, and what I'm using as a source of strength - I know in the coming weeks some days will be good, and some not-so, the Log officially starts tomorrow but I have an introductory video to break the ice

  • Hello Dan, have just watched your Vlog from yesterday, and just want to wish you the very best of luck with your chemo, it won't be nice but I hope you manage your bucket list in the respite days each fortnight.  Will be following your progress and look forward to watching you having some good days out!  Fingers crossed for a good result in 3 months' time!

PS I think I prefer your old hat, sorry - I have very bad memories of sick bowls!

  • We had a rather unfortunate event with the old hat, it kind of, well, turned into an emergency sick bowl!! And this was the only one I could grab on my way out after my liver biopsy!! I did prefer the old one but I guess I'll have to do... I have started my Facebook so feel free to add me, I will continue the V-log on YouTube nonetheless, we've just gotten a go pro camera & have been out on my bike today so some fun videos to follow

Just like to say a big thank you to everyone on here, it's really great how much of a supportive environment this site is, I will continue the good fight and hope people have a good laugh watching my vidz

  • Hi Dan

I've been following your vlog posts on YouTube but can't figure out how to add comments there - I can click the like button though - just to leave my mark on the place. Hope you've been managing to chill playing games with that mahoosive tv! Escapism is good. I forget all my troubles when I'm on my xbox. Love the new hair cut. I expect the hat fits better now?  I will be keeping everything crossed for you as you begin treatment. Give this evil squatter a good kicking!

  • Thanks Nutty - if your using YouTube on your mobile I believe you scroll right to the very bottom & it should allow you to leave comments - or maybe a little arrow on the screen?? Either way your support is very much appreciated - take care

  • Hi Dan

just checking in on you to see how things are going. Will go to YouTube in a bit. Keep kicking ***!!

    best wishes

  • Hi Dan, just watched your latest three Vlogs, loved the day out on the bike yesterday, felt like I was there as well.  It may be a bit long, but great nonetheless - I was glued to it.  Are you sure it was you on the bike though, the bloke in the car looked very similar?!  (Your brother, I guess?  Smashing shoes, by the way!).  A good start to your bucket list, and I hope it helped to blow the cobwebs and smell of the hospital away for a while - it was nice to see Vicky, too, hope she feels okay now.

Good luck with the next lot of treatment, meantime have as good a time as you can, look forward to seeing more of your adventures!

(I tried to find you on Facebook the other day, but no luck, so will have another go later.)

Take care, all the best, Hazel x

  • Ummm I couldn't find you on Facebook either... Hope you're good. I've not seen the latest videos x

  • Hello Dan,

I thought I would pop in your thread to let you know that there's a young man named Lee who is 33 who posted yesterday on the forum and seems to be in exactly the same situation as you. He was diagnosed only on the 20th of April. I have made him aware of your thread and vlogs, but feel free to say hello to him too if you have a minute. You can read his story here and respond if you wish.

Your logs are great - and so are your hats!

  • Evening Dan -

Yeah I do use youtube on my mobile - I will check out lower down the screen when I view your next vlog and see if i can comment somehow instead of just giving the thumbs up. Did I remember correctly that you start chemo tomorrow? Just wanted to wish you the very best of luck. Hopefully the side effects won't be too bad and your squatter gets the kicking it deserves. Keep your chin up.  Keep that lovely sense of humour and most of all keep wearing the hat!

    Sending you warmest wishes

    Netty

  • Thanks I've dropped him a message so hopefully he'll get in touch
