Next steps for my wife (lung cancer)

My wife finished her last lot of chemo just before Christmas and had a ct scan, on Monday we went to see the oncologist to talk about the next steps in her treatment, she showed us the scan pictures and it showed that the chemo was working well as the mass on her adrenal gland is shrinking quite a bit and also the ones in her lung, also they noticed a small blip (she said about 8mm) in her head that they want to check out further by sending her for a mri scan, she said that she wasn't worried about it but wanted to get it checked to be on the safe side. Now my wife will be  starting chemo again but only having  pemetrexed and this will be until further notice, she also said about until it didn't work and then they would try other options. Has anyone been in this situation and knows what to expect?

  • Hi OMGitsDMC

It's good to hear that your wife's chemo is working well.

While you are waiting for a response from anyone who has been in a similar situation, don't forget our nurses are only a phone call away.

You can contact the team on freephone: 0808 800 4040 from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. They will be able to help explain what the oncologist said.

Let us know how your wife's scan goes,

    Best wishes

  • Hi OMGitsDMC So glad your wife's chemo has been successful. I am in a similar situation, I was diagnosed with lung cancer 3 years ago, I had an op to remove it followed by chemo which was cisplatin and gem ide. I was clear for 3.5 years but unfortunately it's now back and is inoperable. However I too will be starting cisplatin and pemetrexed tomorrow. I have been told I will have 2 sessions and then a scan. If chemo continues to work I will have another 4 to 6 sessions following which I will go on to just pemetrexed once every 3 weeks for a 15 minute infusion as a maintenance program. I too have been told if this fails to work there are further treatments to try. I wish your wife and yourself good luck with her treatment, stay positive and never give up and I shall also be taking my own advice!
