In Feb 15 I had a small lump removed from my breast I also had treatment of radiotherapy  Is it normal at this stage for my breast to be tender if someone hugs me .

  • Hello Lib 33,

Thank you for posting a question. As you have not yet had any responses from our forum members Lucie the moderator asked if we might like to reply. I am sorry to learn that you have been affected by breast cancer.

While I would not necessarily say that it is common for women to experience breast pain a year after treatment, it is not unheard of. Some women do find that the treated area can remain sensitive or tender for quite some time after treatment.  Also in some cases the radiotherapy can cause the breast tissue to be a little more firm. In most cases this does not cause any pain, but occasionally it can be tender.

It probably would be a good idea to speak with your breast care nurse at the hospital or get a check- up from your GP, to rule out any problems. But I do not think that it is all that likely that anything is wrong.

I hope that this reply helps a little. If you have any other questions you are welcome to get back to us. If you would like to telephone our freephone number is 0808 800 4040. We are here from Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am to 5pm.
