tongue cancer

  Happy new year to everybody.

Is anyone out there take vitamin D to help with pain/

  • Hi - if you are deficient in vitamin D it can cause you pain so taking it would stop the pain. But it has no use as a pain killer for other conditions. In Sweden they use vitamin D supplements to help guard against depression in winter brought about by lack of sunlight. Kim

  • Hello Imim,

I belong to our nurse enquiry team and have been asked by our moderator Lucie if there is anything we could add to your post. Vitamin D isn’t a pain killer and I need to mention that it is important not to take more of it than our bodies need.   The NHS website has some information about vitamin D which you can view by clicking on the link here. This says that if you take vitamin D supplements, do not take more than 25 micrograms (0.025mg) a day, as it could be harmful. However, taking less than this is unlikely to cause any harm.

Do talk to your doctor about your pain, there is a wide range of standard pain killing medicines that can be used and if these don’t work well enough there may be options too.

    Take care,

    Julia

  • Thanks for the reply.
