Symptoms

Hi

I had my first 7 hour cycle of Chemotherapy last week and surprisingly felt fine, not what I expected at all. But 3 days later I felt really ill I can handle most things but not feeling sick. Can anyone tell me how I can control this? Does this happen every time?  I had anti sickness tablets but only for 5 days

Thanks

Casee

Hi Casee.  Your reaction sounds pretty standard honey.  Please tell the chemo team because they can put anti-sickness drugs through IV whilst giving your chemo as well as tablets to take home - ask for more than 5 days supply or ask for them to give you a letter you can take to  your GP asking for their help to monitor your sickness so they can treat it with the correct drugs.

Good luck with the treatment, I hope it all goes well and you can get on top of the sickness problem.  x

  • Hi Max

Thanks for taking the time to reply to me. My next cycle is in Jan and I will certainly let my chemo team know. They did explain the side affects but I just wasn't prepared for them to be so bad. I read your post and you truly are an inspiration I only hope I can find your strength and courage as my treatment continues. Have a lovely New Year.

I had 6 sessions of weekly 8 hours sessions (always on a Friday) for Throat Cancer

I always looked forward to me Chemo as i felt brilliant on Sat & Sun, ok Monday Tues, then found it difficult for the rest of the week until Friday again.

Apparently its all the steriods you get in the Chemo that gives you that feel good factor.

I used to hate taking all the anti-sickness (5 times a day, for the following 5 days ... horrible stuff ... sounded like Domperinion Champagne, but tasted nothing like it .... and i had no sence of taste 2 weeks in to my treatment)

however they did their job as i was never sick, or felt sick, just drained and tired toward the end of the week.

you do have to keep up with all the meds, but its a common cycle by the sounds of it

I hope that it gets better for you though, just talk to you medical team as they may needto look at changing your anti sickness

Shout if you have any questions
