Please help me!

My mum was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer 4 weeks ago but after more scans we've found out it's spread to her liver and lyth nodes is her stomach. We were told on Friday they can't treat her and she has about 3 months to live. I'm just so numb and don't know what I'm going to do without her! I just don't know how to feel, act and I'm scared to be around her.  Please someone help me x

  • Hello woo.  I am so sorry to hear about your Mum and know what a terrible shock a cancer diagnosis is for all the family as I too have incurable disease.  Please don't be scared to be with your Mum, she will understand totally how you are feeling because she will be feeling exactly the same way and bereft at the thought of leaving you too. It is a dreadful situation and there are many people here on the site who are in a similar position and who will be able to relate to your feelings and offer support. If you have a McMillan nurse team at your local hospital, they will also be able to help you with both practical and emotional issues and can talk to you and mum together.

Receiving the sort of news that you and your family have is going to take a while to get to grips with, so just take it day by day and spend as much time together as you can. My daughter and I just sat and talked today about all manner of things and to me it was bliss!

Please come to talk whenever you need. I have met some great friends here and I hope you will too. The nurses can be contacted on the free phone number shown at the bottom of the page Mon to Fri 9-5 for practical advice and support.  Speak soon x
