after HIFU increasing PSA

I had HIFU in 2010 but it didnt clear the cancer totally - since then my PSA has gradually increased and is now 5 - have just had new set of biopsies and a MIRA scan and awaiting results - don't really want to have another op/major treatment - any thoughts

  • The question is, how old are you?

At a PSA of 5. you may outlive any cancer in there.  And at 5. it is as big as a dot.

I also had HIFU, in 2007, and my PSA has risen a little each year, which looks like yours has mirrored mine.  My doctor told me that he wasn't getting rid of all the prostate tissue, and PSA rises with time, so expect it.  He said only when it rises more than 2. in a year should you begin to take notice.  And then statistics prove a reHIFU is very successful.

It's the velocity that is important, and your age, is it important to be totally cancer free when it's one of - or maybe - the least threatening of cancers out there?  3% die from it.  Does your prostate bother you?  At 5. I imagine it doesn't.  Do you want to risk it?

I'm sitting on the side lines with my PSA, I'm 71 years old, finally I can pee when I want, HIFU was fantastic for that.  If I did something else it would be another HIFU, but I wouldn't until my PSA was rapidly increasing.  And then I would talk to a HIFU doctor, not someone who sells another treatment mode.  That's my opinion, hope it helps you.
