Bladder cancer - chemical industry

My mam has recently been diagnosed with bladder cancer and is due to have her bladder removed shortly she has worked in the chemical industry for many years. Does anyone know how she can claim compensation?

  • Hi Sheasy

You should be concentrating on helping your mam out rather than thinking about claiming compensation. She'll be needing a lot of help in the coming months.

You need to contact a solicitor and then go through lots of trauma trying to prove that her cancer was caused by some negligence on the part of her employer. Good luck with that.

People from all walks of life get bladder cancer, mostly you will never know what caused it. Enjoy just having time with your mam for now, money isnt everthing.

  • Hi Sheasy

Welcome to Cancer Chat and sorry about your mam.

If she does decide to seek advice about taking legal action, she needs to contact a solicitor. There is more info here.

We wish your mam well with her surgery.

    Best wishes

    Jane

  • Its not about the money and its my mam who has said about claiming compensation as she has found out she is losing her bladder and the effect this will have on the rest of her life. I never knew it could be caused from the chemicals she had worked with so long and I think it should be highlighted to others so they know the risks when working with chemicals.

  • Hi again Sheasy

I just re read what I wrote in reply to your post, and its come across not how I intended, sorry. Of course your mam is everything compared to money. First you and your mam will need all the strength you've got to get through whats ahead in the near future. When things settle down a bit you could ask for some advice from a solicitor, many practices will give you an initial half hour free. They can advise you if it is worth taking up a case or not. Then if you have the stamina you could take it from there. Bear in mind these guys charge around £180 per hour and your mams employer will have legal insurance, to cover their costs, if not their own legal department. It will put a huge strain on you all both emotionally and physically, so give it some thought before you go down that route. I am just speaking from personal experience. I do wish you both all the best in the coming weeks.
