Radiotherapy......help!

I'm in the process of 10 sessions of radiotherapy to the base of my skull for secondary breast cancer in the bone.  I've had headache since January and this was how it was discovered (primary breast cancer also at the same time)!  As I'm new to this I wondered what others experiences were regarding the pain relief after/during radiotherapy as I still have the headache 8 sessions in.  Does the pain start to get better after the treatment????

  • Hello Sallyk,

I noticed your message hadn't yet received a response so I thought I would bump it back to the top of the list. Hopefully someone with a similar experience will pick up your post and respond to you soon.

Don't hesitate too to ring our nurses' helpline on 0808 800 4040 (it's a free number!). You can call them Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

I hope you are feeling better and are having fewer headaches.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Sally = this must be awful for you - I would get onto the doctors and ask them to help. From what I have heard from others - yes the headaches will diminish over time. But if you find them bad = tell the doctors to step in and offer tablets or something. Good luck with the radio = my wife had it for her bowel - spent most of the time afterwards sleeping it off.

    Hi Sally

Im not really able to offer you any real support with your illness because I'm not going through cancer myself (currently waiting a difinative diagnosis for my husband after an xray showed a shadow on his right lung)

Your post actually caught my eye because of your avatar. What a lovely dog. It looks so much like my departed and beloved old girl when she was younger. I hope my off topic comment doesnt rile anyone because its not really the right thread but I just had to say how beautiful the pic is and wanted to send you some encouraging words. I hope that you have managed to get some relief from your pain. Stay strong

  • Hello Sally, I had 5 fragments after a seconary tumour caused a vertebra, L1 sort of in the middle, to collapse. The pain and after effects tend to show after a couple of weeks. But they do diminish after a few weeks. Well that's my experience anyway
