what to say & when

I have just found this site from Facebook as I am a parent who has just learnt that I have cancer - still awaiting detailed prognosis but my dilemma is whether to tell my teenage children - my daughter is doing her degree and is home for easter - do I tell her or not?? Do I tell my son before his GCSEs ???? How can I tell my parents?? I dont want them to be upset or to interupt their studies , how can I best prepare them for the months ahead?

  • Hi Jayne

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sure you will get some useful advice from those here who have faced the questions you are now asking yourself about talking to your loved ones about cancer.

We have some information here about talking to children, though it may be aimed at those younger than your own. You may find it helpful though and there are some tips about other organisations you can contact for advice.

You can also call our nurses. You can call them free from UK landlines and most mobile phones on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes

    Jane

  • I found it best to tell them straight away as you will need their support!
