I had my first mamogram 12 months after first diagnosis, and then I was told I only need one every
two years. I thought it was once a year for five years? Is this the same for everyone?

Like you, I also thought it was yearly ..... maybe the nurses here can verify x
I think you are right, have a look at the NICE guidlines. Think the hospitals are overrun at breaking point. Looking to free up scanners and consultation time.
Did you have both breasts scanned at one year or just the lumpectomy boobie?
I was originally told I would be checked for 5 years.
At the year 1 check up. Junior Dr exam who hardly felt under my arms for lymph glands. . . . I stated to the Dr that I was surprised not to get a scan. Well if you are worried we will give you one - which they did!!!
Year 2 a small lump was drained - a cyst thank goodness
Year 3 Had my normal routine post 50 scan
Year 3 consultation wanted to sign me off. Stated I thought the guidelines were to get checked for 5 years so they made an appt!!!!! Will this be a waste of time if no scan I wonder.
As I saved the hospital thousands of £s, operation and consultants time by not haveing reconstruction I think that's the least they can do. We all know that being caught early is key and haveing had cancer in one breast we are 25 times more likely to get it in the other That's 25x more that 1 in 8.
I have no wish to be a bad statistic and if you are concerned I would check this out further.
There, that's my rant over...
Take care, gardenlady.
I feel the same as you. I did not feel my lump - it was found by a mamogram, and even needed to be marked before the lumpectomy to show the surgeon where it was. Mine was Grade 2 lubular with lymp nodes involved. My scan 3 years previously was clear. I am in a clinical trial, so I will be checked by the oncologist a bit more. I have phoned my breast care nurse to check on the mamogram, and she said they do them every 2 years.
It is not that I am worrying all the time that it will come back, but I beieve that we should be careful and keep checking ourselves, as we all know treated early it is very cureable.
I will question my oncologist on my next appointment.
Thank for keeping in touch, it is good to talk to someone who has gone through this.
