Bone and joint ache with Hormone reassignment treatment,

Diagnosed @12 months ago with Metastatic prostate cancer gleason 4+5, i had before this back ache problems for many years but now it seems to have increased, only treatment i am on for cancer is Zolodex, Also is it common for all my bodily joints to ache on this treatment, it can be quite debilitating, its usually accompanied by a hot flush but not always, it feels like ive got the flu without the runny nose cough or headaches,

  • This sounds familar , just had my radiotherapy it was over 7 weeks and very hard going my injections of prostate on to left me with hot flushes for a day or two after , I had all my bloods done last week and get the resuts on Thursdy at the Marsden

  • Hi my husband is the same he's very stiff and flu like symptoms. Since he was diagnosed 6 wks ago we have now found a rare cancer has spread to the bone. So in hine sight the flu symptoms were easy. He's now going for chemo. Hope this helps you to cope better.

  • Hi,

I know all about the HOT FLUSHES believe me. When I was having my radiotherapy and in the waiting roon I made friends with three other couples. One of the husbands asked if I had the hot flushes and when I said yes, he said dont expect any sympathy from your wife. And he was so right. All I got was now you know what we women have to put up with. It got to the point where my wife and I were competing to see who had the most. At one point I was way in front both for the ammount and the severity. I found humour has helped me cope during my treatment and since. Now nearly four year after finnishing my zoladex, the hot flushes have nearly dissapeared, only having the odd few at nights but they still manage to wake me up.

I never had the joint problems you describe but I have heard this can be a side effect of hormone therapy. The good thing for me was that together with the radoitherapy, I do believe it saved my life so the way I see it the siide effects are a price worth paying. However, I would mention your problems to your medical team as there are other hormone treatments that mat give less side effects.

Wishing you all the best, Brian

  • Hi Brian , we have the same laughs as well.

  • Hi all just a question can anyone help. My husband as you know is on the hormone injection with all the side effects. The bone this morn was really painful ,he also has taken a stabbing pain in his testicle. Does this sound familiar ? Thanks mary
