side effects of Firmagdon

my husband has been taking the above hormone drug for sixteen months every four weeks as an injection, when he was first diagnosed with prostate cancer stage four his psa was 544 when he went in October last year it had gone down to 0.33 which we are very grateful for and it is being kept contained at the moment, he suffers very bad mood swings on the night he has the injection in the morning, where he has terrible mood swings and is not himself at all, he does go back to his normal self but also gets may be three or four more shortened sessions of the mood swings in the next couple of weeks, we are going to see his oncologist in a couple of weeks time, does anyone else have knowledge of this................he does not realise at the time it is happening and has no real memory of it the next day.  Thank you

  • Hi Normanski,

I was on zoladex hormone therapy for prostate cancer and I know this can cause mood swings. The mood swings I had were the type where if I heard bad news or sometimes even good news, I ended up with tears in my eyes and I had no control over them whatsoever. This is quite common apparently. It is embarassing for us men for we try to make out we are strong and macho. Indeed there is a song entitled, "Grown men dont cry". I used to try and hide it from my wife by yawning as my eyes always water when I yawn but knowing my wife I probably didnt fool her, not for long anayway

Some men even get the type where they are in a bad mood and take it out on those closest to them.

That is a fantastic result with the PSA and you must both be so relieved. Mine was 70 but came down to 0.01. I would certainly mention this to your specialist for he may be able to substitute anther medication.

Hope this helps to know your not the only one who sufferd this. Best wishes and please keep in touch, Brian.
