  • Hi Andy

I am sending you a link to our information on surgery.

There may be some useful general information there about what to expect when you go for your operation.

You could call our nurses to talk through any questions you may have.

You can contact the team from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

The number is: 0808 800 4040 and calls are free from UK landlines and most mobile phones.

Waiting for an operation is stressful so please come here to chat anytime and let us know how you are getting on.

    Best wishes

    Jane

  • Hi Andy

You sent me a lovely response  to my post earlier. I really do feel like a wimp now, hearing what you're going to be going through.

I wish you all the very best. I'll be thinking about you, and praying for you (unless you don't like the prayer thing - let me know if you'd rather I didn't ) when it's time for your ops.

Best of luck, and I hope to see you post some good news soon.

  • Update on treatment!!!

Been back to sheffiend hospital today where im having my planned treatment and surgery will take place nxt wed+thurs.   If i dont have it they say i may get 6mth..! and if i have it 1 in 3 dont make it..!

When i do pull through im gunna be a mess in neck+face area and probebly be 12 mth of hell/recovery.

Never been a gambler but the way i see it is 6mth of pain that could get worse day by day or a chance of 20-25yr or more..! only problem is we have to go with our decision nxt week ! so could also be all over nxt week..!   But the surgeons think im young enough (49 june 3rd) and strong enough, i feel strongish and possitive n think i can do it or i wouldnt b going throu with it!!! Yes ive signed the consent forms just i week to go n 2 weekish before i know if it was a success..!  fingers crossed for me as i need all the help i can get!    Andy.

  • Fingers, toes and eyes all crossed for you!

All the very best for next week. It will be hellish - my husband and I have both been through major surgery and it is very, very nasty. I have kids, so I thought I knew all about  pain. Ha! How wrong can a person be!

But it goes away. Hold on to that thought. And ALWAYS call for a nurse if you're in pain or if you feel sick. They have an amazing array of different painkillers they can give you. I got a row from the Sister one night because I didn't call for them until I was crying. She told me always to let the nurses know when you feel bad, because it's their job to make you feel better. And you can ask for the Pain Team to come and see you.

All the very best for next week, and I will be praying for you.
