I am new

Hello, my name is Deborah and on Januay 2012 I had a TIA during this time many tests were taken and it was discovered that I had a tumor in my pancreas. A biopsy was done, and lost 12 months later they said they wanted to do another biopsy and it stated on the report due to patient being uncomfortable we were unable to biopsy. 18 months later a CT scan was order and a 3rd attempt of a biopsy was done and at this time it was determined that I had stage 1 neuorendocrine malignant tumor in my pancreas. They proceeded to remove 1/3 of my pancreas repaired two hernias in the process and was sent home after a week. My incision healed really fast from the outside but not the inside. I had to be reopened three times and had to be on a wound vac two times. They say I am doing well but the constant back pain is sometimes unbearable. Dr.s say the cancer was very well encapsulated and very slow growing and they stated that it was all removed. But why am I so tired and in so much pain? Does anybody have any answers it has been 9 months since the first operation. I am glad to finally find people who I can talk to because it is so hard to talk to family about this. I dont want them to feel sad or fell pity on me.

  • Hello Deborah,

I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling with pain and tiredness. It sounds as if you have had a long run of illnessess and tests to deal with.

Have you talked to your GP or consultant about your symptoms? We do also have a team of nurses here at Cancer Research UK that you can call if you think if might be helpful to speak to one of them. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 which is free to call from a UK landline.

Please do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Deborah

welcome here - its a nice supportative forum ful of caring people. Sorry you are inpain and feel tired. The tiredness I am not surprised at = you have been through so much - it must have taken all your energy to pull through. And you have pulled through! An achievement in itself. I am sure it takes a long time to get your energy levels back = Anne my wife had bowel cancer and the treatments left her totally exhausted. It has taken well over a year and yes = she is feeling more energetic = but back to her old form.

All the very very best to you

    Your are so brave

  • Jamayde,

Have you talked to your GP about pain relief?

The hospital staff may well be fixated on the mechanics of your recovery, but your GP should have more of an interest in you as a whole.

Apologies if my prejudices are showing here, but that has been my experience over the years.

    Good luck.
    Dave
