CIN 3 and HPV

In March 2013 I had a regular smear test which came back with high risk HPV and mild dysplasia, I had a colposcopy and biopsy, with results stating I had CIN 1, on the 17th November 2013 I had my follow up colposcopy and smear test, today I got results which state I have severe dysplasia and have to have treatment in a few weeks, the Dr advised this is not cancer and she doesn't think it will be either. Just seeing whether anyone else has had these results and treatment and whether the treatment was successful, I am having treatment done under local anaesetic also- I also one day want to have children but today with these results this seems a long shot now, I am 28 years old and this has gutted me and hope that I could maybe get a bit of reassurance and advised of anyone going through the same thing.

  • Just a little update haven't really got anywhere he did an internal check but wasn't satisfied fully because he wanted me to do another pregnancy test but I couldn't wee!! With the amount of bleeding i very very much doubt i am. So he didn't want to examine to an extent where it could cause potential damage if i was so off to buy a stick in a while. He's bookede in for a blood test on Friday morning and sending me for an ultrasound in the next couple of weeks also writing to the gynaecologist to see weather they want to see me aswel.. glad i have tests coming up to try and find the problem anyway.

    all the best xx

  • Hi I have exact same as you. A letter come through yesterday I had it done in April I had some obnormal cells removed. But the letter don't make sense if I had that done it says I have 2-3 and hpv but says follow up with doctors in 6 months! If cin 2-3 needs treatment why in 6 months time?

  • Hi my daughter phoned me today to tell me she Has CiN3 I'm actually annoyed with her because 8 years ago just a month before she got pregnant she was going to send her to the hospital and when Dr found she was pregnant she was not happy. Anyway my Granddaughter is 7 and half and she's just got her results today. She has 3 and is lucky because I don't know how this affects you getting pregnant. I do hope as although serious its not Cancer and it will just be laisered off. But my daughter knows what I went through..I was so ill they made sure at 29 I'd not have anymore babies. So I had Hysterectomy I only had one Overy so they left it.. But ohh the sweats my goodness..I  got up like I usually did got all my oldest 3 boys off to school and then I sorted my youngest son and only daughter out put on the Tap for water and all of a sudden I was the tap too. HRT for a few years came back to Wales and didn't need it as Overy was working so when I turned 50 it never happened I'd just sailed through it. So as you see I was young having that and I just never wanted anything for her or her brothers. I nearly lost my oldest son and he's riddled with Rhumatiod Arthritis 5 years now he was only 34 he went down to 7n half stone it absolutely destroyed Me he's now put weight back on but is a mess with hands knees and wrists.. Anyway sorry I'm babbling

  • Just wanted to say a big thank you, Emmagee, for your honest post and words of encouragement!

I've just recently had a LLETZ procedure via general anaesthetic, as I had 2 smears come back abnormal over the past 2/3 years... and the second one showed signs of increased cell changes in my cervix (hence why I had to have a LLETZ procedure to remove the cells).

I also was told in 2023 that I had HPV.... which came as horrifying news to me! No matter how much they said it was common... I felt ashamed and embarrassed! So thank you for reiterating that this truly is a common STI, and many people have had it and live normal lives...

I've just had the results of my LLETZ to say the cells were CIN1, and have been successfully removed! (Hugely grateful for this news).

Like you, I'm reminded of how blessed we are to live in a country where healthcare of this nature is FREE... and fully accessible to all women, regardless of age or social background! And that science has evolved so much that this is a fully treatable situation that no longer has to claim anyone's life!...

Go to your smears ladies... please! I know they can be very uncomfortable for some...(I'm perimenopausal now, and suffer from a lot of vaginal dryness and tightness.. so believe me, I know they can hurt sometimes!...). But they are super quick... even colposcopys only take 10-15mins... but they both ensure you get to live a healthy life! And those who love you dearly, get to keep you with them for many more years to come!

I hope this is an encouragement to others to not bury your head in the sand if you are called for a smear, or told alarming news of cell changes... but to grab the bull by the horns and make sure you grab every chance to remain healthy! Go and get treated ASAP.

Last point... if you are told you need to do a biopsy, LOOP or LLETZ procedure, don't be pushed into doing it with only local anaesthetic if you are not comfortable, or if you are too anxious... You can request for it to be done under general anaesthetic if you prefer! The procedure is quick...20mins, and you wake up, have a cup of tea... and can go home within an hour after the procedure!

The NHS will always suggest local anaesthetic first... but it is your body! So do what is best for you!...

    All the best!

    Xx
