  • Hi Burberry,

No I don't mind you asking.  Mom was diagnosed with early lung cancer 2 years ago and had surgery to remove a section/wedge from her lung.  The operation went well and mom was told she would not have chemotherapy.  We just got on with our lives but it was always at the back of my mind.  Mom had her regular ex-rays which were all clear and she had a letter from her surgeon/consultant saying how pleased he was with her progress and he hoped that he had cured her.  Early December 2011 she started to complain of sciatica which got worse and she took to her bed.  On three occasions I called an ambulance out to her and we were given a different diagnosis each time even though I made it quite clear that she had previously had lung canger.  Mom then suffered a bout of sickness and we thought she had picked up a bug.  I got more worried as she then started to withdraw but insisted it was only sciatica but I made her see a consultant and paid for her to go private.  He spotted something was not right (this was early Feb) and admitted her to hospital.  She had a scan and it revealed that the sciatica was in fact a huge tumour on her hip and the cancer was also spread to her lymph glands, lungs and back.  I was absolutely devastated and so so scared.  I could not bear to see the fear in moms eyes it was just heartbreaking.  She put up a brave fight and spend periods of time in the hospice and then back home with me and my husband but was always in bed and never very well.  I would sit with her for hours rubbing her back while she was sick and trying to comfort her.  She then had an awful fall at home and broke her arm/shoulder.  She was trapped in the bathroom and the air ambulance had to come out as she was so traumatised and in so much pain. I really was at the point of not coping anymore and was close to breaking point with worry for my poor mom.  Moms arm did heal but then the cancer advanced very quickly and she died on the 5th June.  Mom was a heallthy 10.5 stone before cancer.  She was just under 5 stone when she died.  I am still heartbroken and as I am typing this I have tears in my eyes.  I miss her so much and my heart is breaking at the though of how much she had to suffer.  Sorry if I have gone on too much.  We all love our nearest and dearest.
