Has anyone ever survived inflammatory breast cancer?

Hi my Mum has inflammatory breast cancer. I dont know what stage, but it spread to her lungs and liver, but they never said to her it was too late or anything. She got treatment and the liver tumours shrank away to virtually nothing and the tumours are still shrinking, docs were surprised as it was quite significant and they were worried about the liver. they dont give much hope for this kind of cancer, but im amazed at how well my mum is doing. Is there any chance she could be ok? Shes also getting more chemotherapy with herceptin next month. So she's getting lots of good treatment.

  • Hiya

There is a post you can read http://cancerchat.cancerresearchuk.org/message/50066#50066 that contains posts by a survivor of inflammatory breast cancer. Your mum sound like her cancer is not triple negative which is good. My wifes IBC was triple negative (herceptin would not work) which with her age (38) made it very difficult to treat. I lost her 17 months ago. IBC is not an easy one to deal with but there is a success rate for treatment. Please do not hesitate to ask me any further questions.

    Take care

  • i am so sorry about your wife. i have heard my mum say some people want herceptin and they have to say sorry you dont have the specific protein type. Your wife was so young, cancer is a terrible thing, lost my grandmother in May to it. Hope one day itl just not exist anymore

  • I was diagnosed in October with inflammatory breast cancer,  it has spread to my lymph nodes but no further than that,  I am 40 years old and have 5 children, the oldest being 19 and the youngest being only 2, I have never been so scared in my life but have also never been more determined to beat this, I am trying to stay positive which is exhausting but I can't let this beat me. X

  • Hi

I had Breast cancer in 2016,I had a lumpectomy ,radiotherapy and I am on tamoxifen,I was 42.A month ago I felt a small lump side of my other breast,I thought nothing of it at first, then I noticed lump getting bigger and another in armpit. My Breast feels like it is so swollen inside and I am getting pain from my chest wall, under arm pit and through my nipple. My breast care nurse says could be swollen lymph nodes and I am booked for mamogram and ultra sound. It feels like swelling and lump getting bigger by day.I am worried it could be Inflammatory breast  cancer and was wondering what your symptoms were?

  • Hi, I was diagnosed in October 2013 and still her :), have you joined our Facebook group? X

  • The only way I can describe it is that it felt like I had a rock inside my boob, you really need to speak to your bcn or oncologist asap and if they are slow to see you, you can ask for a second opinion, I have done this, it's a scary time but there is support out there x
