BCG Treatment

Hi everyone

I was wondering if anyone in has had the BCG treatment for bladder tumours ?

I was diagnosed 16 years ago, i've had two treatments of a localised chemotherapy in that time, which didnt stop the reoccurance.

I'm going to have a 6 week treatment of BCG and would like to find someone who has been there and done it ....so to speak....

                                                                                           Thanks in antisipation..

  • Hi Terry

I'm sorry you haven't had a reply to your post yet.

It might just be that nobody who's had BCG treatment has seen your post, as Cancer Chat has been very busy this week and posts quickly disappear from the front page.

(By my replying to your message, your post will go back to the top of the front page, so hopefully you'll get a reply soon).

    Best wishes

  • Hi Renata

Thanks for that... I had my first instillation on tuesday this week, my reaction to this first dose was quite horrible..really bad flu like symptoms...

I'm hoping now that my immune system will be a little more ready for the next dose...

such a small price to pay for what could be a successful jouney.

                                                                                                                                        thanks again

  • Hi Terry ,

Yes I have had two doses of BCG and am sorry to say for me it did not work I still lost a great deal of blood  I had a cluster of tumours on the wall of my bladder .,

So I was put in the care of a new top man whos` name I am not aloud to say but he is the best ,he told me the treatment had done nothing for me and he was going to take out the bladder and prostate that was 5 years ago i I have never looked back it is just a matter of habit changing pouches and night bags and keeping clean.I also have crohns and that is nasty very nasty you need to plan your days out Finding just where the loos` are and such .

But there are a lot of people much worst off than me .ps I ams 79 this july .

    Take care all the best

  • Hi Terry .

Talk to me I have been through it all you must not keep it to yourself please talk to me .take care  george ..urostar .......

  • Hi Terry, I see it is about 1and a half years since you posted this message. How are you now? I have just had one BCG treatment so far last week, five more to go over the next 5 weeks. I wouldn't even know I had one treatment, but I'm told I will experience side effects that will become more severe with each treatment. I would appreciate knowing how you got along and how you are doing now. You are well |I hope.

  • Hi urostar, are you still on this forum? It has been a year and a half since you last posted and I wondered how you are doing now. I will have my 4th treatment on Mon. Sept. 23/13 and then the last one on Sept. 30th. The side effects certainly do get much worse with each treatment, so I'm not looking forward to the next two. I was really sick with the 4th one and am told the next two will be much worse.

I messaged Terry a while back there, but didn't get a reply. I hope she/he is doing better. How are you doing these days? Would like to hear from you. It seems as though bladder cancer is not all that common, and certainly less common for women. However, cancer is cancer and what kind it is doesn't matter a whole lot in the end, does it.

    Hoping you're doing well.

  • HI Lorraine I am stil here and coping just thad some tests and all is well but I am 80 and age dose not help have a nice new year and regards george

  • Hi George, good to hear from you. I'm not all that far behind you in age, give or take a few years.  Good to hear that all is well so far with you. I still will continue to have BCG treatments ongoing as I understand it, but who knows what's down the road. As I said before, as long as I have reasonable periods of wellness in between treatment cycles, I take it. The cystoscopy I had after the last set of treatments apparently indicate that the treatments so far are helping. Hopefully that will continue for  a good while to come.

Take care and all the best for the new year.

  • Hello all, hope you are all doing well . My husband is being treated with BCG, next Thurday will be his last course of this treatment . His last two biopsies indecate success as no cancer cells found in his bladder ( long may this good news last ) . He has suffered from all the possible side affects, but as Urostar has stated so has my husband as long as he has a reasonable period of wellness in between cycles he takes it . My husband after treatment normally feels unwell for 24 hours, however he dosnt feel confidant to leave our home for two days after treatment due to constanly needing to rush to the loo, however if this treatment has destroyed his bladder cancer the side affects will be worth the discomforts . Best of luck to all . CJR
