  • Hi
The moderators told us about your post and thought we might be able to help. As I am sure you know a Whipple¿s operation is a very big operation and it can take some time to recover. It is not unusual to have a few problems when people first go home. However, I think that you or your parents should contact the doctor at the hospital.

Feeling and being sick is always distressing and there are several possible reasons why he is being sick and it should be checked out. There may be a very simple solution to it depending on the cause. There is also information about diet after surgery to the pancreas on our patient information website here which you, and they, may find helpful.

We are not sure why he can¿t taste things, it may be following the anaesthetic or it may be some of the drugs he is taking. Again, his doctor, who knows what he has had done and what drugs he is taking, may be able to tell you. It may help to know that taste changes are usually temporary.

It is important for your parents to get help if they need it. It is such a lot for them to cope with and can feel a big responsibility looking after someone after an operation. People often worry about contacting the doctor or nurses at the hospital. But usually they can help sort out any problems quickly and help to stop people worrying.

    Take care,
    Jenny
