Anybody out there had a basal cell carcinoma on forehead

Hi there I am looking to talk to fellow sufferers. I have had a reoccurence 2 years after initial diagnosis. They took away my skin graft and replaced with new patch. Waiting now for results. Not sleeping very well and very tired. Nerves jangling in my head. Back to work tomorrow hope it I can cope ok.

  • Hi there kpsafc,

Have recently had a basal cell carcinoma removed from just below my left cheekbone; have been told by the dermatology department and my GP these are not the dangerous type, mine had been there since early 2008, after every spot and mole on my face went black after chemotherapy. This particular one though never really went back to being just a dry area of skin. I suppose it was difficult because I always slept on my left side and it got rubbed on the pillowcase. Since removal the area has healed well and is now almost un-noticeable. It was sent to pathology and there have been no recalls to dermatology

  • Hi,  yes I had (yipee,I can use the past tense) a large BCC on my forhead that had slowly grown over a period of about 8 years.  The visible BCC was about 5 square centemeters but with 'roots' it covered about half of my forehead.  Just before I was scheduled to have a massive skin graft I tried curaderm BEC5 and it worked.  I had seen alot of mixed reviews about this cream but as a last resort i decided to give it a shot before the surgery and it worked.  I applied the cream for 76 days at the end of which it was gone.  It was slightly painful but a whole lot better than surgery, i went to see my specialist just over a week ago and he said he can see no trace of the BCC, i just have to go back in 3 months for a check up. Like I said  I have seen alot of mixed reviews but all I can say is that it worked for me.

  • Hello all,

Thanks for posting on this thread, as ever we need to remind anyone contemplating using an alternative therapy to discuss this with their cancer specialist first. Not all alternative therapies are side effect free and we would advise anyone thinking about using a treatment like Curaderm to read the information available on the American Cancer Society website.

We have information about effective treatment for non melanoma skin cancer on CancerHelp UK that you might all find useful http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/type/skin-cancer/treatment/

  • To whom it may concern I'm a newbie to this forum and live in Australia only found this after googling gorlins- bcc's

Hi my name is Sam I'm 37 I was diagnosed with gorlins when I was 18 then the bcc syndrome I wish now I never talked of the holes ( pits ) on hands

I've had over 500 bcc removed from chest, back arms, legs , head which seems to attract them I've had photo dynamic therapy on it numerous times but they still grow so I went from lovely long hair to nothing as I'm forever bald at present I have three large bcc's on top of head one is a large hole into scalp and is forever bleeding hence next wednesday I'm to be operated on I'll end up with large graph on head as the bcc's on head are flesh eating not a great feeling I'm *** scared to tell truth it hasn't helped last year I had  sah ( subnaracnoid heamerage & stroke ) so now going into hospital stresses me out not like before bleed

Unfortunately we don't have on line chat support room in oz for gorlins syndrome / Basel cell carcinomas so I was surprised to see this one

Hope I'll find other people with gorlins & BBC's to chat with people who know what it's like having this condition

    Take care Sam

  • What do you mean by nerves jangling in your head? I have mine removed next week and mine feels like a twitching a lot!

  • hi there, i have a bcc on my left forehead, by eyebrow, it was removed, privately last year, and has not bothered me at all, and healed up ok, just a scar about 1/2 inch long, but they did not take enough away and the results came back that more had to be taken away and i am now scheduled to have nhs mohs surgery on monday which i am scared to do, as with the roots i could end up with half my forehead cut into - which scares the hell out of me, but i am for the last three weeks now expericing bad headaches and wondered if it was because of the bcc - if its spreading do you get headaches/pain, or am i worrying over nothing. i am frightened to have the surgery, but am now frightened that is spreading. what do you advise.....

  • Hi penny

Iam now in a similar situation to yourself can I ask how your treatment went please I do hope all went ok and you are doing well

  • hi there i have had no treatment for the one on forehead as i needed to have specialised mohs surgery for that one, the other three i've had surgery on and they were all bcc's. i have a pretty large scar on face from the one, but the rest were scar free. the one on forehead, i just got an appointment 1 year later for treatement, but in all honesty might not even do it as i am scared that its spread too much now and i will have extensive scaring on my face. as its bcc, they grow so slowly and to be honest, its not even noticeable, its not bothering me so when i went to see my plastic surgeon a month or so ago bout something else, he looked at it and said that he was not concerned about it, and he does specialise in surgery for skin cancers, so i am thinking why mess with it, why take the risk of having megga facial scars to dealt with, its not bothering me, and to be honest how many people are walking around with skin cancers and don't even know they have them, maybe if i was younger i would have it done, but i am older - if yours is bothering you, then i would get it done, and it depends on how big it is, is it a confirmed bcc, which is low risk, and how do you feel about the surgery, good luck on whatever you decide

  • Thank you for responding I'm booked in for Mohs treatment which my consultant recommended to stop it spreading as it's a small bcc on my forehead Which has developed roots ! I'm taking it that the headaches your were experiencing were not connected

  • yes unfortunately that's the problem with the bcc's, the roots... i just think that its been so long now that the roots may be right across my forehead, who knows really so am scared to end up having big scars that i cannot cover, i am having a hard enough time trying to cover the scar down my cheek, as i had four bcc's on my face at the one time !!! i have been waiting for the mohs surgery for almost 1 1/2years so that's been loads of time for it to have spread... i had surgery on it, but the plastic surgeon who did the other three plus this one, privately, i might add as nhs take too long to reply....did not take enough so the mohs was recommended for the removal of the remainder, so it has been operated on once already ages ago. my consultant said i had choice which were, have the mohs, or leave it and if it bothers me to come back. and as its not itching, bleeding, you can't even see it really, etc i am thinking to just leave it and see how it goes. after having 4 of them at one go i am a bit fed up of surgery ha ha... i do now use 50 block each and every day, even in snow.
