Ovarian Cancer

Hi,

I was diagnosed with Cancer in March and although we knew it was Cancer its still a shock to be told it. I have had 2  chemo cycles now and have my 3rd at the end of the month. I would love to chat about the chemo side affects to anyone..

  • I was diagnosed with early ovarian cancer four weeks ago following a total hysterectomy, there were tumours on both ovaries, I have an appointment for a kidney function test and another ct scan next Friday, if everything is ok I start taxolcarbo chemotherapy after that. I was told there will be six sessions with 3 weeks rest in between.

I do hope I am posting this in the right place, I am concerned about the chemo and hope to learn more through this forum

The waiting is always the worst part.Once you have your plan and things are underway it is easier to understand.I had breast cancer so can not advise you about your treatment but would like to wish you the very best of luck.Do keep coming on here for us to support you .good luck

    woohoo everyone  good news!!

The tumour is barely visible, no referral to the lung team, there is a tiny shadow which they think is the remains of a chest infection, they are amazed at the results. They are continuing with the chemo but in reduced dosage, three weekly with a week of rest in between. They are concerned about the tinutis I am experiencing and the shins aching, they said it was best to do the reduced dosage.

So don't give up ladies, my prognosis was not good and here I am with great results.

    Thanks for thinking of me

    Dot xxxxxxxx

  • Excellent Dot, told you not to give up till the chemo had a chance but didn't expect it to work quite so well but am thrilled it has! I'm on a reduced dose to don't seem to make a diffference to the tumour and to easly to say if it improves the side effect symptoms! When's your next dose (I'm thinking Fri???). Have they changed your schedule? 3 weekly with a weeks rest sounds different to a dose every 3 weeks.

Eileen, glad you got to spend time with your new addition, nothing like a little 'un to cheer you up and wear you out!

Rose your positivity worked for Dot so keep praying for 'no bad news' weeks!

Will check in soon. take care everyone

    Love Jackie xxxx

  • Hi Jackie,

yes Friday is next chemo, so three weeks and a weeks rest, did I confuse you lol. I won't be sitting there for such long hours either, another bonus.

You did tell me to wait until chemo kicked in and you were right!!!

    Three cycles then another ctscan.

  • Hi rose, not long got back from hospital went to veiw my ct scan and see if i could have surgery to remove whats showing on my right side.

but the hospital are saying no because of the risks and after affects so my oncolagist is sending my scan to another hospital for a second oppinion

then its up to me if i wont the op if theyl do it its six of one n halfa dozen of the other!.

because of the after affects thats been explained i really dont no what to do. i got the impression my doc would rather i had surgery

then just chemo.i feel really lost and down today.

big hugs to everyone julygirl58[sharon] xxxxx

  • Big hugs Sharon, it must be confusing for you, not knowing what to do, maybe when the second opinion comes back it may help you make the decision, I found that although I was given options, they did suggest what they thought would be the best way to go.

Try not to worry and I know that is really hard, hopefully you will feel more positive once a decision has been made.

    My thoughts are with you

    Love Dot xxxxxxxxx

  • Oh Sharon,

What a downer Lets hope when all the results are in ,as Dot says ,it will be easier for you to make a decision.. Get some chocs in and curl up in front of the telly then tomorrow go out and have a walk or a nice drive.Hope you feel better soon

  • Hi ladies

Annie thats brillent news get u out there and celebrate!

Sharon thats not so good. Can you give any more details - talk us though it - it may just help clarify things in your own mind to, have you previously had surgery? no pressure if you don't want to go into detail then don't. As the days pass and you mull over what you were told things may become clearer or not, it would probably be helpful if you jot down any questions which come up so you can discuss these during the second opinion. As Dot says they usually advise you which option to go for and if they don't you can ask them which they would choose.

Dot, glad the reduced dose has left you feeling good, hope it continues and you can enjoy all the time between treatments!

As for me feeling ok now but cannot shake this cold, bored with it now but at least I don't feel bad with it so shouldn't complain.

    Love to all

    Jackie xxx

  • Hi jackie, to cut a long story short had ct scan july 12th called back aug.something was showing on the scan asked surgeon to veiw it for op.

they have said no now my oncoligist wants me to haveanother ct scan and she wnts a second

oppinion you confused yet cause i am!! but shes told me surgery could leave me with more problems so what am i ment to do? i thinks she prefers that i have surgery instead of just chemo again.

    avery confused sharon.xxxx

  • Hi Ladies,

Jackie you have had that cold for ages now, it must be driving you mad. I hope your feeling ok apart from that though.xx

Dot you seem to be doing alright as well and hope it all continues for you as you deserve some good luck xx
