  • hi smillerjudge, sorry i have not got back to you but i was cut off the internet, i was born with one arm so i never ever sunbathed because i never took my arm off and the wood and my flesh blistered so never liked the sun, my nan died of malignant melanoma, i have it so its hereditory im sure of that, not always the sun.10 years ago the specialist at the hospital said i have basil carcanoma above my eye, whick is still there, they said because it caused no problems its ok, which i think still is, however begining of last year i had an itch down below, i put it down to thrush, i ignorned it at first then i started getting shooting pains so went to the drs within a week im in hospital, the skin cancer went to my vulva, so i had a partial vulvectomy which isnt nice, but they also took my nymph gland out my right groin to make sure the cancer had not spread, but im left now with part of my vagina left, the worse thing about this cancer, im under close watch every 3 months with my gynocologist, but the face i would go to a dermatologist anf lungs etc another, its a horrible illness,

  • Hi,

I don't know if the original posters on here will still be members so I've popped in to give you some advice. As you are unsure as to how long you have had this mark and as it doesn't sound to be the usual colouring of a mole, can I suggest that you monitor it for a week or two to see if it changes in any way. I know it's in a 'private' area of the body but do you have anyone you can ask to take a photo of it and then take another photo in a week and then in 2 weeks time so you can see if it's changing? It may well be a vascular type mark (like a bruise) and it will change colour and fade in that time. If it doesn't change then I would see your GP and they may hopefully be able to diagnose a treatable skin complaint. If they think it needs further investigation they may refer you to dermatology.

Please don't panic, our bodies are prone to coming out in marks, lumps and bumps at times and they then fade & disappear. Waiting & monitoring for two weeks won't cause it to get worse - hopefully it will start to disappear in that time. Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (melanoma patient)

  • Hello Angie,

thank you for responding it’s really kind of you. I had a referral appointment with a dermatologist today for a 2mm wide mark / mole on my leg, which appeared out the blue about 3 weeks ago and was dark black. I asked the derm to check the other one I asked about above today and it’s a mole apparently and nothing wrong with it, just threw me as since I got referred 2 weeks ago I’ve been more aware of my moles etc and had a panic as it was fairly big compared to my other moles and a totally different colour

In just over 4 weeks the mark / mole on my leg is being removed, it’s not classed as urgent and she doesn’t think it’s cancer as couldn’t see a certain colour within it (I didn’t really know what she meant tbh) originally when I found it it was black looked like a blood blister then went scabby I got referred and panicked and called to go private as my anxiety Meant I wasn’t eating or sleeping, stupid I know! The dermatologist removed the scab fairly easily and also looked and said he doesn’t think it’s anything sinister by looking at it up close but said to keep my referral appointment which I went to today. Hopefully will come back benign as the original derm said it could be a benign traumatised hemangioma.

    Thank you

  • Hi Clazkel,

I’m very well thanks for asking, hope you are too.it was a long time ago but I seem to remember it was raised slightly & it was mainly darkish brown but had a black & red bit too and on the top it looked like tiny blisters in the middle. Always good to get checked so we’ll done, sending positive thoughts to you, keep us up to date if you can

  • Glad that it's been checked out & it's fine. Hope the mole that's to be removed proves to be benign too. Please let us know how you get on,

    Angie

  • Hello Angie,

sorry it's took ages to reply. Thankfully the lesion was harmless pigmentation.  I now am waiting for biopsies of spots on my legs, 2 spots are getting biopsies as I've had a rash for over 10 weeks and the dermatologist believes it's inflamed hair follicles and is why the rash/spots haven't gone yet. Also my eyebrows have gone really thin and started to lose eyelashes noticeably and she believes it's related and could be lichen planopilaris, but I've worried for months that I have follicular mycosis fungoides due to itching of my face and lumpy skin under my eyebrows, but the docs and dermatologists I've mentioned it too have all said very unlikely as it's soo rare and my bloods (platelets) are ok. But having read about it it is difficult to diagnose. So hopefully the biopsies will give someone answers

    hope you are well

  • Hi I was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma on Dec 4th 2023 I had a little lump removed from my calf, I thought it was just a fatty lump, the thing that the doctors couldn’t understand was there was no mole or blemish where the tumor was found.
I was then followed up by dermatology who gave me a full body check, as they are now looking for the primary? Nothing found on body check, next CT & PET scan which came back clear. 4 weeks ago I had a wider incision operation, once again no cancer cells found.
The wider incision op is taking a while to heal due to it being in the back of my calf, luckily the surgeon was able to close the wound, but there is still the chance it could split open, I have a huge hollow where the wider incision was taken from. I can live with that.
So I’m cancer free, and feeling very optimistic about the future now, of course I will be checked every 3 months by doctors, and a CT scan every 6 months.
Please stay positive as there is light at the end of the tunnel.

    Shirley:-)
